Join NYFA

Member Benefits:

Field Trips: Two or more field excursions, visiting sites that are of interest in terms of botanical diversity or rarity of certain species and plant associations. Trips will also offer examples of land management practices and stewardship in action. Field trips are free to NYFA members.

NYFA Newsletter: A newsletter will come to you quarterly, with articles of wide interest to field botanist including: rare plant discoveries around the State, floras and projects underway, systematic problems, life-histories of species, GIS and ecological studies, historical perspectives, reports and species lists from NYFA field trips, book reviews, letters to the editor, announcements of meetings, etc.

Atlas of NY Plants: Membership fees provided support for the online digital atlas.  While this atlas is now free for all accessing these pages, the support and continued development of this atlas is only supported through membership dues.  By the winter of 2003, NYFA will unveil its new digital atlas complete with photos, herbarium record information, and habitat information.

Botanical Workshops: Each year NYFA hosts one botanical workshop.  These workshops provide members with an excellent opportunity to learn detailed information about specific groups.  These workshops will bring in a national expert within a selected taxon where that expert will share their knowledge and assist NYFA members in learning how to identify that taxon.  To date, we have held workshops for the following: aquatic plants, bryophytes, Carex,  and Juncaceae.

Website:  Membership support allows for frequent updates and posting to our website.  This website has received hundreds of thousands of hits since its inception, all thanks to membership support.  Our website keeps those interested in New York's flora up-to-date with news and other information.

Back issues of the NYFA Newsletter: Membership fees provide support to allow all interested people to view back issues of the NYFA Newsletter.  This are viewable at  the NYFA Newsletter website.  There is a 3-6 month delay before previous issues are posted to ensure members have first access to newsletter contents.

NYFA Meetings: Each fall (and hopefully also during other times) meetings are held at various locations across the state. Business meetings are kept to an absolute minimum in favor of communication, planning of field trips and short talks on topics of botanical interest.
